Australian first woman PM will have led the nation's oldest political party. Gillard announced on 17 July that the 2010 federal election would be held on 21 August. Gillard was born in 1961 in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales.
Gillard was elected as Member for Lalor in the House of Representatives at the 1998 election. Gillard was confirmed Prime Minister, with the support of one Greens MP and independents, on 7 September, 2010.
