Japan Airlines to Cut 16k Workforce in Restructuring

Japan Airlines announced rehabilitation plan that will cut more than 16,000 positions by the end of fiscal 2010. The plan is to reduce staff from 2009 levels. It will retire 103 of its fleet and scrap 10 international and 39 domestic routes.


The airline not succeedd under a mountain of debt. It will invest 350 billion yen (4.13 billion U.S. dollars) in the carrier to make it a wholly owned unit said Japan's Enterprise Initiative Turnaround Corporation.

The plans have been submitted to Tokyo District Court. The company filed for economic failure protection on 19 January. JAL was established in 1951 and became the national airline of Japan in 1953.

Storm is expected to gain even greater strength before heading northwest towards the United States. Earl caused flooding in low-lying areas and damaged homes on islands including Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla and St. Maarten in Caribbean.
 
Earl is forecast to brush the U.S. East Coast. Hurricane Earl blowing across the northeastern Caribbean Sea has strengthened to a Category Four second-highest on the five-step scale hurricane.

Hurricane Earl is the seventh depression, fifth storm, third hurricane and second major hurricane of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season. Earl is the first Cape Verde-type hurricane to affect the Leeward Islands since Hurricane Georges. Earl intensified further into a category 4 hurricane.

62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards presented by The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on August 30. “Modern Family” was the first ABC comedy in more than 20 years to receive the Emmy for outstanding comedy series.


This year “Modern Family” broke the three-year winning streak of NBC’s “30 Rock.” Modern Family was named best comedy. “Modern Family” eclipsed Fox’s comedy series "Glee" that took home only two trophies from 19 nominations. Mad Men, which is set at a 1960s New York advertising firm, won its third consecutive Emmy as best drama series.

Modern Family is an American mockumentary comedy TV series. The half-hour series, which was created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, is produced by Fox Television Studios.

Google plans pay-per-view video service by YouTube

Google You Tube is in negotiations with Hollywood’s top film studios to release a pay-per view video service by the end of 2010. This move by Google will put it in competition with Apple.


Apple expected re-launch its existing Apple TV brand. YouTube as becoming a global pay-per-view video service and attracts millions of users and while it is best known for its user generated content.

Google will use its search technology and YouTube to direct viewers to the new service. Google has been promoting the enormous fame of online streaming media. Google expanded the service to include a larger range of titles. Google says it expects YouTube to show a profit this year.
