Apple Steve Jobs launches Social Media Ping

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has showcased social media Ping at Apple's annual music event in San Francisco. Ping allows users to follow favourite musicians, as well as follow friends to see what music they’re listening to and which musicians they’re downloading.

Ping is a music-themed social network, much like MySpace and Last.fm. Mr Jobs said "It's a social network all about music."Because it’s built right into iTunes, there’s a likely 160 million users already on the network.

As is common on other social network sites, users can share their thoughts and opinions. Ping has large numbers of albums, songs, concerts and downloads.
